Last night we were delighted to welcome so many families to our Open Evening. From the moment visitors arrived, they were greeted with fantastic live music from our school band that consisted of Mr Conroy and Sixth Former’s, Mabel and Elliot.

It was wonderful to showcase our school and, just as importantly, to see our student leaders thrive. Their enthusiasm shone through as they guided families on tours, answered questions and proudly shared what life at Woodcote High is really like. A special highlight of the evening was hearing from two of our Year 7s, Josiah and Ava, who gave a speech about their experiences of settling into secondary school.

Departments across the school came alive with exciting activities. In Geography, our prospective parents and students erupted volcanoes, built earthquake-proof structures out of spaghetti, jelly and mini marshmallows, tested their knowledge in flag and grid reference games, and marked out places they’ve visited – or would love to visit – on a world map. Science proved a big hit too, with everyone getting hands-on with microscope investigations, watching the famous elephant toothpaste experiment, and even learning about alkaline metals.

In PSHCE and Health & Social Care, families explored their health by testing peak flow measurements and got creative designing emoji faces to show how they’re feeling about the move to secondary school. Meanwhile, in Drama, rehearsals were already underway for our upcoming production of High School Musical (coming February 2026) – a sneak peek that was full of energy!

Over in Art, screen printing and photography gave visitors the chance to get creative, while in ICT, the drone obstacle course competition proved an exciting challenge for all ages. Parents included!

We hope everyone found the evening both enjoyable and insightful. It was a real pleasure to welcome so many families through our doors, and to share just a taste of the amazing opportunities on offer here at Woodcote.
