On 29th January, 50 Business Studies students set off on a highly anticipated visit to Chelsea Football Club’s iconic home ground, Stamford Bridge.

Upon arrival at the stadium, we checked in with the tour organisers and received official lanyards and tickets. Due to the size of the group, we were divided into two smaller groups to begin the behind-the-scenes tour of one of English football’s most historic venues.

The tour offered a fascinating look at the inner workings of the stadium on match days. One highlight was visiting the media area where reporters deliver live commentary. We were able to see just how close journalists sit to both the pitch and the fans, gaining a real sense of the atmosphere and intensity they must capture during a live game.

Another memorable stop was the away dressing room. While its layout was surprisingly similar to the PE changing rooms at Woodcote, the history attached to it was extraordinary. Shirts displayed the names of football legends who have played at Stamford Bridge, including Wayne Rooney, George Best, Franz Beckenbauer and Ronaldo. Seeing these names brought to life the rich footballing history associated with the stadium.

Students were also given access to the press conference room, where they learned more about the club’s financial structure and various revenue streams. This provided a valuable opportunity to connect classroom theory with real-world business practice. Many students took the opportunity to sit in the manager’s seat for a photograph, imagining what it might feel like to address the media after a major match.

One of the most exciting moments of the day was walking through the players’ tunnel and out towards the pitch, accompanied by the famous walk-out anthem, ‘Liquidator – The Best of the Harry J All Stars.’ This immersive experience gave students a powerful sense of what match day must feel like for the players.

The visit concluded at the club museum, where we explored the history, achievements and development of Chelsea as both a football club and a global business brand. After lunch, we returned to Woodcote, reflecting on an engaging and educational experience.

The students were a credit to the school throughout the day, demonstrating excellent behaviour, maturity and respect. The tour guides thanked the group for their enthusiasm and professionalism, warmly welcoming us back in the future. This trip provided students with a valuable opportunity to see first-hand how a Premier League club operates as a successful business. It was an experience that will undoubtedly enhance and reinforce their learning in the classroom.
