Our Year 10 students had the opportunity to participate in a CSI Blood Pool Workshop this term.
They were presented with a real-life crime scene and examined the entire case including forensic tests and analysis. During the CSI workshop, the students had a chance to:
- Interpret what is found at a crime scene
- Test a sample of blood found at the scene and work it its blood group
- Conduct DNA sequencing using electrophoresis
- Interpret other physical evidence found at crime scenes
- Use critical thinking skills to consider how an expert forensic scientist would present this information at court
Teacher Feedback
“Thinkers in education presented a professional, dynamic, engaging workshop which gave student the chance to take on the role of a forensic scientist and learn how to conduct practical techniques – accuracy was key to the group’s success. Working in groups meant students used a range of skills: leadership, listening, presentation, ability to prioritize.” – Mrs G Bhogal
