PSHCE (Core Non-Examined)

Introduction

Our curriculum of Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic (PSHCE) education is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to become healthy, responsible, and independent members of society. It helps students develop the essential knowledge and skills to navigate life’s challenges, build positive relationships, and make informed decisions about their well-being and future.

What Will I Study?

It is our obligation to provide high quality, inclusive and age-appropriate education that meets statutory guidance and all students’ needs. Through engaging lessons, students explore key topics such as relationships and sex education (RSE), online safety, drug education, financial literacy, healthy lifestyles and more.

Our approach ensures that students not only gain knowledge progressively, but also develop confidence, critical thinking, and respect for different viewpoints. Lessons encourage deep discussions, personal reflection, and the application of our WHS ASPIRE VALUES, helping students make informed decisions both in and outside of school.

How will I be Assessed?

Our lessons and drop-down days are designed to complement our wider curriculum and foster independence, integrity, resilience, and self-awareness, ensuring students leave school ready for life’s challenges. There are no formal examinations in our personal development curriculum, however at the beginning and end of each topic students are asked to reflect on what they know, and every timetabled lesson starts with a retrieval practice to improve and support learning.

Career Opportunities

Careers in social work, healthcare, education, law enforcement, and counselling all benefit from the skills and knowledge gained in PSHCE. It also enhances communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, which are crucial in any profession. By studying PSHCE, students build the confidence and awareness needed for both their careers and personal development.
